It all started with two boys

When you start to study who is Kobe Bryant’s uncle and where he came from, it all starts with two boys: Eldrick Tiger Jackson and Joe Jean Chubby Cox. They grew up in a small Kentucky town in a black community that was very impoverished. The two were friends and enjoyed playing basketball together when they could afford some hoop shoes or a ball.
Eventually, Tiger became good enough at basketball that he got his first pair of $60 basketball shoes as a hand-me-down from Chubby. When they were old enough to attend school they enrolled in Central Academy High School and played on the local team called the Middlesboro YMCA Arrows—mostly against other high schools.

The two brothers then went their separate ways

They took a bit before they really got in contact with each other. However, when their mother passed away from cancer after their freshman year of high school and Mike was named interim head coach at Iowa State, the brothers reunited for Thanksgiving dinner for the first time in about 10 years. The dinner helped the two heal a lot since they have been close all their lives.
They talk a couple times a week now and Bryant admits that he needs his big brother during tough times. You have someone you can be vulnerable to, says Bryant.I’ve always been kind of tight with him, so I’m going to lean on him even more now.

We can learn a lot from each other

Kobe Bryant has had a successful career both on and off the court. He is also one of only three players to have won five championships with two different teams (the other two being Bill Russell and Michael Jordan). What many don’t know is that he was born from a high school relationship between his father Joe Jellybean Bryant and Pamela Cox.
His mother, who was 19 when she gave birth to him, raised him as a single parent in Philadelphia. This is not to say that his biological father played no part in his life or upbringing. In 1979, Joe had transferred to California and attended UCLA where he met with success as a player for their team and became friends with then-coach John Wooden.
When his college days were over, Joe went back to Philly and married Pam. The couple never divorced even though they had long gone their separate ways by the time Kobe was born.
