KatieSigmondd

KatieSigmondd was born Katie Sue Sigmond on September 2, 1965, in Dallas, Texas. She had two brothers and one sister, who she was very close with growing up. Her father, who passed away when she was 12 years old, was a history professor and her mother was a teacher.

What are you passionate about?

KatieSigmondd is  passionate about: 1. Understanding the world around me through research and writing
2. Teaching others how to do the same by sharing my knowledge with them on this blog , in my books, and at public lectures
3. Learning new things – it doesn’t matter what it is as long as it expands my horizons
4. Spending time with loved ones (especially Mom)
5. Going outside – especially when there is a chance of snow on the ground!
6. Watching episodes of The Office in Spanish (they are hilarious!)
7. Practicing yoga

Favorite book

KatieSigmondd love to read. One of my favorite books is The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. It tells the story of an old man who is in a nursing home and shares his life with a woman who is visiting her grandfather. They begin to share their thoughts about love, relationships, and life through handwritten letters that he sends her. I also enjoy The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom because it tells the story of an 84-year-old man named Eddie who dies while working at Ruby Pier as a maintenance man.

When did you become a runner?

I started running when I was about 12 years old. I’ve always loved to run but it wasn’t until my freshman year of high school that I found myself on the track team. The reason for this is because my favorite class was P.E. at the time and all of my friends were on the team so I decided to join as well. At this point in my life, running became more than just a hobby–it became a part of who I am.
I have been told by many people that they find it hard to believe that someone like me can be such an avid runner with a hectic lifestyle–they think there is no possible way to have time for both! This couldn’t be further from the truth though; in fact, I love having time for both!

Least favorite song

I’m Waiting for My Man is a song written by Lou Reed. It was released on his second solo album after the breakup of The Velvet Underground in 1970. The song also appears on the Velvet Underground Live album from 1969. In 1972, Nico performed her own live rendition of I’m Waiting for My Man at the Festival D’Avignon.
In 2005 this version was used as the opening music to Oliver Stone’s biopic The Doors. A cover version with Emmylou Harris singing and Tom Petty playing guitar is included on Johnathan Demme’s 1986 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense.

Why I run marathons

I know it sounds crazy to most people. I’m not a runner. In fact, I’ve never even run a mile in my life. But running marathons has been an incredible personal journey for me. It’s been both mentally challenging and physically rewarding because it forces me to constantly push myself farther than I would have ever dreamed possible.
The truth is that I don’t really care about the number of miles I run each day; what matters to me is how much time I spend outside every day with friends and family, enjoying the world around me. Running has made my life richer by teaching me to focus on what really matters: health and happiness.

If you could run any marathon in the world what would it be?

The New York City Marathon is one of the most popular races in the world. With over 50,000 participants each year and 37 miles to cover, it takes serious dedication. KatieSigmondd not only has this dedication but also has a great story to tell. Born with cerebral palsy she always dreamed of running a marathon with her two older sisters who have since passed away.
KatieSigmondd started training for her first race in 2008 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed something to keep her focused on living a healthy lifestyle. Now cancer free she was able to cross that finish line in 2013 at the New York City Marathon!

Dream vacation destination

When I’m not working as a product manager at Adobe, I love to go backpacking. It’s the best way to see the world! If I could pack up my backpack with only one place on Earth to visit… it would be Northern Ireland. The most beautiful country in the world has so much history and culture to explore. Oh, and did I mention that Guinness is native to their shores?

Dream non-running hobby or activity

I love to paint. I studied art in college and have always been drawn to the creative side of life. It really helps me focus on what I want my piece to say or look like. I also enjoy reading a good book while I paint. Painting is my favorite non-running hobby because it doesn’t take up a lot of time, but still provides a sense of accomplishment when you’re finished!
